Berwick – A Suburb In High Demand!

Berwick’s reputation continues to be one of the most desirable suburbs to live in and it’s not hard to see why.

From cafes, shops and schools, to parks and hospitals, Berwick offers a family lifestyle that is pretty hard to beat. It’s visually appealing too: older areas of the suburb retain a country town feel, with tree-lined streets and heritage properties, while there’s also a good mix of newly built modern homes and gorgeous gardens.

Now investors are joining families in their quest to own their own piece of Berwick, making this a suburb on the move. We look at what’s happening and why.

Great family homes

Berwick has around 47,674 residents, according to the 2016 Census. In the five years from 2006 to 2011 its population grew 24.9%, and more growth is predicted for both Berwick and the City of Casey as a whole.

Families make up 81% of households in Berwick, and freestanding houses with three or more bedrooms make up 88% of the local housing stock. Most households have four or more people, 75% of properties are owner-occupied, and the median mortgage repayment is $1,842/month.

Most people work in professional jobs, but there are also a large percentage of people who work clerical and admin jobs, in trades, or as managers.

The biggest employers by industry are hospitals and educational institutions, followed by retail and food.

Excellent education

Berwick’s excellent schools, which are public, catholic and independent, as well as both primary and secondary, are in high demand from families. There’s also a TAFE and university campus.

Healthcare hub

Berwick is also something of a healthcare hub. It boasts two hospitals and the recently opened additional St John of God Berwick Hospital campus adds more vital services and employment opportunities to the local area.

Transport connections

At around 40km from the Melbourne CBD, Berwick benefits from being on the Pakenham metro line and the Gippsland V/Line. It connects with busses to Narre Warren and other shopping centres, and the Monash Freeway is nearby.

A truly family friendly lifestyle

With boutiques, restaurants and cafes, wonderful parks, healthcare and schools, there’s little wonder families love Berwick. It has the friendly feel and heart of a village inside all that a big city has to offer.
